Depicts the events leading up to the Battle of Hastings in 1066 when Duke William of Normandy was victorious over King Harold of Saxony, England. A Norman ship is depicted here. This jacquard tapestry is an extract of the queen Mathilde's tapestry. The original, some 230 feet long, is in the Bayeux museum in Normandy. It describes how England was conquered by Normans. Also known as L'Embarquement.
